I love beer for many different reasons. Of course, the taste is a big part, but I also love the culture surrounding it. The history, the community and all the little hidden gems that you uncover when trying new beers with good friends. I have never heard of this brewery or seen a single one of their beers until Nolia Beer when this was entered into the beer competition. As soon as I took my first sip, it put a smile on my face and I knew I jut had to have it in the tasting.
Purple to pink in colour with a medium cloudy body, this beer produced a faint pink head that disappeared almost immediately. The aroma was fresh blackcurrant, red currant and tart cranberry. The taste followed the aroma closely, with sour dark berries swirling the mouth. The short aftertaste was quite drying but really made the mouth water as well in a lovely dichotomy.
Fresh, lively and with a real sour edge, I thought this was a great berry berliner weisse. It can be hard to get that right combination between the fruit sweetness and the tartness but they have done a great job with this. I will be buying this for myself next summer as I have a feeling the sunny weather would be a great environment to drink this in. Delicious.
