My favourite beer of 2019 was “IPA Kolata”, a coconut and pineapple infused DIPA from Evil Twin Brewing. I know it sounds a bit strange but I just loved the blend of tropical fruit, thick body and warmth that it just became a perfect beer for me. I wish I had bought more when iI had the chance! Ever since I drank my last can on New Years Eve I’ve been looking for a substitute. When Prins Katt revealed they were making a similar beer I jumped at the chance to get some into my IPA tasting. But did it live up to my hopes? It came very close indeed!
This was completely cloudy and looked like pineapple juice with a non-existent head. There was a massive aroma of coconut cream and pineapple that eminated the glass. The sweet aroma smelt absolutely delicious and the taste was also phenomenal. There were big ripe pineapple notes at the forefront of each sip, taking over the whole mouth. This was juicy and thick in the mouth and really coated the whole of the palate. The coconut slowly came through more in the aftertaste along with a slowly developing bitterness. This could be a really dangerous beer to drink as the 8% is completely hidden except for a hint in the back of the throat alluding to its potency.
So whilst this beer didn’t quite reach the dizzy heights of Evil Twin, it is still amazing. I loved the creamy fruit and how easy this was to drink. This is more of a dessert beer in a way but still maybe my favourite beer of the year. I think I need to buy a few more to tide me over the cold winter nights!
