If there is one thing I’m a bit of a sucker for, it’s coconut imperial stouts. I absolutely love them. The marriage between the milky, sweet coconut, coffee, and chocolate is just divine when handled correctly. Dugges have a long standing reputation as being quality brewers, but I think the title has slipped a bit in the past few years. Production of beers has increased to an almost crazy extent, inevitably watering down the quality along with it. This has no such concerns however, as this may be one of their best beers of all time in my opinion.
This poured with a deep, thick brown hue with literally no head. It looked as flat as flat can be! The aroma was massive amounts of fresh coconut, which overrode all other aromas. Usually I would say this is a bad thing, but for me this was just heavenly. There were small hints of chocolate and a boozy note in the aroma as well, but those were both run over by the shaved coconut. The taste was sweet and amazing. It was like drinking a stout poured through a coconut in a way, with the big roasted notes subdued by the heaviness of it. The oily, thick body glazed every inch of the mouth, leaving it with a fresh yet intense aftertaste. If you have ever eaten coconut ball, you know exactly how it felt
There couldn’t be a more perfect name for this beer. It’s a little crazy at just how much flavour they have packed into this beer. It is now sold out at Systembolaget, but I was lucky enough to be 15 while they still had some. I have no regrets, as even at that high price, this is worth every penny.
