I first tried this beer a few years ago after I bought it because of its Mötley Crüe connections, as Shout At The Devil is the second album released by hair metal legends in 1983. Wessingekälla Brygghus AB is a microbrewery located in Veinge and was founded in 2015 by Niklas Högberg and Patrik Eriksson. Weissinge Brygghus has also released a beer recently in collaboration with the band Thundermother to keep with the rock theme. As I really enjoyed it back in 2019 it seemed like the perfect beer to slide into a rock n roll tasting!
As expected, this was deep black in colour with a very thin off-white head. The aroma was quite light but hints of licorice, cocoa powder and leather were all recorded. It had a perfectly smooth mouthfeel and was extremely easy to drink for a 10% stout. The taste was intense but delicious, with dark bitter chocolate and sweet licorice bursting on the tongue. Low carbonation was noted upon sipping, but it was at the perfect level. The warming alcohol slowly builds in the throat after drinking, but never to a negative degree.
This was a great imperial stout. Intense milk chocolate, well hidden alcohol and a great aftertaste all made this stout memorable. If you find it, you should give it a go. You won’t be disappointed!
