So it finally happened after a long time of hoping: I got to brew a beer with a professional brewery! This is the first beer brewed as a collaboration between Bryggverket, Umeå Folkets Hus and Umeå Beer Club. It was brewed using extra pale malt, wheat and oats and bittered with El Dorado, Idaho #7 and Simcoe hops. The aim was to create a thick, juicy NEIPA with massive tropical notes. This is a limited edition beer, with only eight crates produced, and only available in Umeå Folkets Hus. Of course, I had to have the beer that I helped to brew in the tasting. But was it any good? Of course, it was!
It poured with a sandy coloured hue and a thick white head that lasted for a long time. It was obvious from the pour that the beer was extremely thick in body, and looked delicious. The aromas were pleasant and sweet, with those big tropical notes pairing nicely with freshly cut grass and citrus. Upon tasting, the thick body came into play again and completely covered the palate. Big mango, papaya and dried pineapple notes flooded the senses, with the bitterness coming through straight after. The aftertaste was of a medium length, but left the mouth with a juicy kick that lasted until the next sip.
Of course I loved this beer, but then again maybe I’m slightly biased. I am so happy that Bryggverket did such a good job with this beer, and it’s so nice to be able to show it off with pride. I’m already looking forward to the next time we brew it, which hopefully won’t be too far away!
