Jämtlands Bryggeri was established in 1995 but was helped greatly by the addition of a brew master from England called David Jones in 1996. After this, the brewery began to grown in popularity and won many prizes at Stockholm Beer & Whiskey. Many more awards have followed in the past 27 years, with their IPA winning the beer of the show at Nolia Beer 2022. This beer celebrates the year the brewery moved to Pilgrimstad and is produced using extra pale and Wiener malt, along with Hallertau Tradition, Hershbrucker and Blanc hops.
This was rather dark for an international style lager, but still had a lovely golden shine to it. A light white head coated the top of the beer and held for a fair amount of time. Sweet malt notes escaped from the glass, with hits of grass and moss backing it up in the aroma. Pastry, honey, fresh grass and citrus are all mixed delicately together on the palate to produce a very easy to drink lager, with a medium body that coated the tongue well. The sweetness gradually built in the aftertaste, but it was well-balanced with a nice earthy bitterness.
This was an extremely enjoyable lager. The fresh, crisp notes were balanced well with the sweet and grassy tones. This was the perfect start to the tasting! I could easily buy this again to enjoy in the upcoming summer months.
