So in later 2023 we came up with the idea of having an apple sour in the restaurant I work. After some thought, we decided upon an apple pie sour, with cinnamon and vanilla added along with apple juice for extra crispness. After giving the ideas to Patrik at Bryggverket, this is what he came up with, and it is exactly what we wanted!
This came out as a hazy, light yellow colour with low head retention, as you would expect with a beer like this. There were massive apple pie and cinnamon aromas, with cream, dough and crisp green apples all leaping from the glass. The spicy and sweet notes played delightfully with the cider notes to give the beer a massive taste profile. The sour notes were tart but never offensive. With a medium to thick body and high carbonation, this beer enveloped the senses. Green apple skin, lactose and a lemon acidity slowly crept up in the aftertaste after swallowing.
After the initial idea for the beer, this came out even better than any of us hoped for. Big flavours and aromas created an amazing beer that was still easy to drink. I’m so happy with this beer, and it’s almost a shame that Bryggverket only created 12 crates. Hopefully they can make some more in the future though!
