For the past few years in mid-February, Umeå has been the host city of the Swedish Rally. This beer was brewed for the event, and then sold as a limited edition. It was made using a blend of Lager, Munich and Vienna malts along with a bit of Chit. Hallertau Mittelfrü and Saaz hops (classic hops varieties from Germany and the Czech Republic) were used for bitterness, with the IBU (International Bitterness Units) measured at 35. 34/70 yeast has been used for fermentation, which is a classic lager yeast from Weihenstephan in Germany.
This was a light amber colour, with crisp clarity and a fluffy white head that retained. The aroma of cracker, lemon peel and honey was fresh and enticing. The taste followed the aroma closely, with the classic bready and biscuit notes blended with honey sweetness, fresh grass and a hint of citrus in the background. The aftertaste was medium to short and was clean and pleasant. When tasted, it was noted it had a medium carbonation and body for the style.
This was another nicely made lager by Bryggverket. Easy to drink and a real thirst quencher, it might not set the world alight, but it did its job well and proved to be popular with the guests.
