Omnipollo is one of the best known craft breweries in Sweden today and are continuing to grow. Founded in Stockholm by brewer Henok Fentie and artist Karl Grandin in 2010, they are originally a “gypsy brewery” who rented space in other breweries such as Dugges. This continues today, but they have also built their own brewery in an old church in Stockholm in 2020, where this sour was produced. This was made using raspberry purée. I had tried the first beer in this range, which was an amazing pineapple variant of this beer. That beer was one of my favourite beers from last year, so I had high hopes for this version. As this tasting was focusing on summery beers, I thought this lovely fruited sour would fit well into the selection, and thankfully I was right!
This had a lovely deep cherry red colour with a thin pink head that disappeared rapidly. The massive raspberry notes dominated the aroma, but there was hints of cherry, vanilla, unripe strawberry and blackcurrant. A pie crust maltiness made it way to the front of the taste along with the tart red fruit, which slowly faded on the palate, leaving a fruity residue on the lips. It seemed to be quite low in carbonation but thick in body, which helped to hold the flavour after swallowing.
I thought this was delicious, with the big raspberry notes exploding upon sipping. I really enjoyed this, and it’s a great example of just how good Omnipollo are at making sours. Furthermore, I can’t wait to try this again!
