The brewery was founded in 2009 with the aim to give Paris its first proper craft brewery. 99% of all the beer produced in sold in cafés and restaurants in Paris. They use more than 50% wheat in the grain bill, which is the same as the law concerning wheat beer production in Germany. It is then hopped with Columbus, which is a slightly unusual choice for this style of beer. This was the last beer I found for the tasting, as originally I had bought in a Polish beer. When I began researching it, I realised that Systembolaget had made a mistake, and it was in fact from Denmark! As Denmark didn’t seem too fun for an “around the world” tasting, I quickly found this as a replacement.
This had a light, straw-coloured body with the expected wheat beer haze. The head lasting for a long time, with a big fluffy top lingering even when half of the beer was drunk. The aroma was zesty lemon, straw, cloves and a farmyard funk that I have found mainly in French ciders before this. The taste was refreshing and easy to drink, with the taste following the aroma pretty accurately. It had a rather short aftertaste, with a bready, spiced finish.
This was well-made with no major defects noted. It was a bit boring though I must say. The tangy farmyard funk that was picked up in both aroma and taste didn’t put this above the wheat beers that are being brewed in Germany and Belgium today. There is better on the market for a cheaper price, but this is worth trying if you find a random bottle here in Sweden.
