The brewery was founded by two friends in Middletown, New York, and is known for its innovative and science-driven approach to brewing. Gabe is a former scientist with a background in biochemistry, and Matt is a brewer. Their first bottle release was in April 2017 after deciding to open a brewery back in 2009. They are best known for producing big, juicy, hazy IPAs such as this. This was highly rated, coming in at 4.37 on Untappd and 99 on RateBeer, so I thought it would slot right in to this tasting. I’m happy to say, this was a very good beer indeed!
This had a bright yellow to orange hue with a thick, chew body and long-lasting head. The aroma was powerful and aromatic, with big tropical fruit notes blending with fresh grass in a delightful way. These followed on into the taste, with mango, pineapple and hints of pine all present on the palate. The body was thick and heavy, with the warming alcohol noticed at the back of the throat. The body coated the tongue and continued to release flavour well after swallowing.
Big, heavy and chewy, this was quite an impressive hazy IPA. Even though it’s a big can, I think 140kr is a pretty hefty price tag. If you don’t mind paying for it, this was a great beer, but I think you can get beers that’s are just as good for half the price.
