Jacob and Jonas Pedersen started Crooked Moon Tattoo in Helsingborg, but after a couple of years they split the business into two, with Jonas now operating his craft in Malmö. After being approached by Mikkeller to collaborate on a beer, Crooked Moon Brewing was born. Dysphoria is the opposite of euphoria, and usually entails a sense of profound unease or dissatisfaction. Sounds like the perfect beer to have in the metal tasting!
Upon pouring, this was a pale yellow colour with significant haze, topped with a fluffy white head that lingered for a long time. The aroma was light, but had some very pleasant herbal notes coupled with fresh hops, pear, moss and peach. After taking the first sip, dried papaya and a heavy hit of bitterness first hit the palate, which was unexpected as I really didn’t expect a Hazy IPA to be this bitter and rough. With a medium body and low carbonation, there were also notes of papaya, hay and flowers. There was a rather sharp and bitter aftertaste as well, which had a slightly weird chemical taste to it.
I didn’t think this was that good, to be honest. It seemed a bit all over the place, and I’m glad I paired this with food as it helped to smooth out the rough edges of the beer. I won’t be trying this one again.
